Three Days in Vancouver: Downtown, Neighbourhoods & Museums

Three days let you move beyond downtown into Vancouver's museum quarter and creative neighbourhoods. Day one covers the harbour, Stanley Park, and skyline views that orient any first visit. Day two devotes itself to Vanier Park, where the Museum of Vancouver, the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, and the Vancouver Maritime Museum cluster on a single Kitsilano point with knockout skyline and mountain views. Day three trades the tourist core for Mount Pleasant and Main Street's independent shops, murals, and dining, then crosses to Commercial Drive for a final evening. The pace stays comfortable, each day is geographically focused, and the mix balances big-ticket attractions with the local texture that makes Vancouver memorable.

3 days

Day 01

Downtown, the Harbour & Stanley Park

Waterfront parks, the aquarium, a harbour cruise, and the Vancouver Lookout.

  1. Morning

Stanley Park Seawall & Totem Poles

Open your visit on the Stanley Park Seawall, walking or renting a bike past the Brockton Point totem poles toward Prospect Point. Early light keeps crowds down and gives you clear views across Coal Harbour to the North Shore mountains before the day heats up.

  2. Late Morning

    Vancouver Aquarium

Spend two hours with the sea otters, jellyfish, and Pacific Northwest exhibits at the Vancouver Aquarium. Its location inside Stanley Park makes it an easy walk straight from the seawall.

  3. Lunch

    Gastown

Lunch in Gastown, where restored nineteenth-century warehouses along Water Street house spots like Tacofino and MeeT, a short walk or transit ride from the park.

  4. Afternoon

    Coal Harbour Cruise

Board a Vancouver Harbour Cruises sightseeing boat from Coal Harbour beside Canada Place. The narrated loop turns the working port, the seaplanes, and the skyline into a story, the best crash course in the city's geography.

  5. Late Afternoon

    Vancouver Lookout

Ride the glass elevator up the Vancouver Lookout at Harbour Centre and step onto the observation deck almost 170 metres above the streets. Late-afternoon light gilds the harbour and, on clear days, the mountains and Vancouver Island.

  6. Evening

    Iconic local eats in Gastown

Cap day one with West Coast seafood in Gastown or Coal Harbour, from fresh spot prawns and wild salmon to Vancouver's celebrated sushi. Order some oysters and toast the skyline you spent all day exploring.

Day 02

Vanier Park & Kitsilano

The Museum of Vancouver, Space Centre, and Maritime Museum on one Kitsilano point with skyline views.

  1. Morning

    Museum of Vancouver

Trace the city's story at the Museum of Vancouver, the country's largest civic museum, from Indigenous history to neon-lit mid-century Vancouver. Arrive at opening to have the galleries mostly to yourself.

  2. Late Morning

    H.R. MacMillan Space Centre

Next door, sharing the same building, the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre runs planetarium shows and hands-on space exhibits, an easy pairing that keeps the whole morning in one spot.

  3. Lunch

    Granville Island Public Market

Hop the little False Creek ferry or walk over to Granville Island, where the Public Market's stalls serve everything from fresh oysters and baked goods to global street food, with False Creek and the downtown skyline in view.

  4. Afternoon

    Vancouver Maritime Museum

Back in Vanier Park, the Vancouver Maritime Museum houses the St. Roch, the RCMP schooner that was first to circumnavigate North America and to cross the Northwest Passage in both directions, now a National Historic Site.

  5. Late Afternoon

    Kitsilano Beach

Stroll west to Kitsilano Beach, where the seawall, the saltwater Kits Pool, and the log-strewn sand frame one of the city's best skyline-and-mountain panoramas, especially near sunset.

  6. Evening

    West 4th Avenue dinner

Finish along West 4th Avenue in Kitsilano, where restaurants serve everything from ramen to modern West Coast cooking a short walk from the beach.

Day 03

Mount Pleasant, Main Street & the Drive

Independent shops, street murals, and standout dining across the creative East Side.

  1. Morning

    Southeast False Creek Seawall

Start with a walk or bike along the Southeast False Creek seawall past the Olympic Village and Hinge Park, a landscaped waterfront stretch near Science World's geodesic dome with gardens, public art, and skyline views.

  2. Late Morning

Main Street & Mount Pleasant shops & murals

Browse the independent boutiques, record stores, and design shops around Main Street and Mount Pleasant, and hunt for the ever-changing pieces from the Vancouver Mural Festival down side streets and alleys.

  3. Lunch

La Taqueria or a Main Street taco spot

Grab tacos at La Taqueria, a local favourite, or pick from Main Street's many acclaimed casual spots, a quick, well-priced lunch in one of the city's best eating corridors.

  4. Afternoon

    Main Street browsing

Continue south along Main Street toward the shops and cafés around 20th and Fraser, a relaxed afternoon of window-shopping in one of Vancouver's most creative corridors.

  5. Evening

    Commercial Drive dining

Head east to Commercial Drive, Vancouver's historic Little Italy, for dinner along a street lined with some of the city's most beloved independent restaurants, from Italian to Ethiopian and beyond.

  6. Evening

    Cocktails on the Drive

End with a nightcap at a Commercial Drive bar or café. The Drive's low-key, creative energy is a fitting finale to your local-Vancouver day.
