One Perfect Day in Tampa: The Riverwalk & Ybor City

With only one day, stay in the walkable core between the Riverwalk and Ybor City. Start along Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park for skyline views over the Hillsborough River, then step into the Tampa Museum of Art before its afternoon crowds. A midday water taxi is the single best way to understand how Tampa's downtown, channel district, and bay all connect. Cap the day with a sunset stroll on Bayshore Boulevard and a proper Cuban sandwich dinner. Everything here sits within a short walk or a quick ride, so you can move at a relaxed pace and still cover the essentials without needing a car or lengthy transit trips.

Day 01

The Riverwalk, the Bay & Ybor City

Tampa's greatest hits packed into one walkable, transit-light day downtown.

  1. Morning

Tampa Riverwalk & Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park

Begin along the 2.6-mile Riverwalk at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, then wander past the University of Tampa's silver minarets across the water. Early morning means thinner crowds and better photos before the paths fill with joggers and visitors.

  2. Late Morning

    Tampa Museum of Art

Steps north along the river sits the city's flagship art museum. Prioritize its Greek and Roman antiquities, the rotating contemporary galleries, and the C. Walter Buhl Ford glass collection. Two focused hours covers the highlights without exhaustion.

  3. Lunch

Armature Works or a Cuban sandwich counter

Grab a fast, local lunch. Armature Works gathers Tampa vendors under one roof in a restored streetcar barn, or try a classic pressed Cuban sandwich at a nearby counter before your afternoon cruise.

  4. Afternoon

Pirate Water Taxi on the Hillsborough River

Board at the Convention Center dock for the hop-on water taxi. It's the easiest, most enjoyable way to see the waterfront, linking downtown, the Sparkman Wharf channel, and the Florida Aquarium along the river and Garrison Channel.

  5. Late Afternoon

    Bayshore Boulevard

Head to Bayshore Boulevard and walk the world's longest continuous sidewalk along Hillsborough Bay. Aim for late afternoon to catch the downtown skyline and the water transitioning toward golden hour.

  6. Evening

Cuban dinner at Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City

Finish in historic Ybor City at the Columbia, Florida's oldest restaurant. Order the 1905 Salad tossed tableside and a Cuban sandwich, and pair with a local Cigar City Jai Alai IPA to end the day like a true Tampeno.
