Weekend (2 Days) · in London

A London Weekend: Central Icons Plus Regent's Park

A weekend gives you time to pair London's central icons with one of its liveliest neighbourhoods. Day one anchors on Westminster, the Thames, and the West End, so you experience the landmarks, museums, and river views that define the city. Day two heads north to Regent's Park for its zoo, rose gardens, and canal paths, then loops into Camden for markets and comedy. The plan keeps each day geographically tight, minimising transit, while still mixing history, food, parks, and views. It suits first-timers who want the essentials without feeling rushed across two full, satisfying days.

Day 01

Westminster, the River & the West End

Central landmarks, museums, riverside walks, and shopping in the historic core.

  1. Morning

    Westminster & Parliament Square

Start beneath Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, then cross to Westminster Abbey and the statues of Parliament Square. It's a free, photogenic introduction to the seat of British power beside the Thames.

  2. Late Morning

    National Gallery & Trafalgar Square

Spend two hours with Van Gogh's Sunflowers, Turner, and the Impressionists just off Trafalgar Square. Entry is free, and Nelson's Column with its fountains outside is a landmark in its own right.

  3. Lunch

    The South Bank

Cross the river to the South Bank for lunch at a riverside spot with views back to Westminster. It's a relaxing pause before an afternoon in the West End.

  4. Afternoon

Covent Garden & the West End

Walk north to Covent Garden's piazza for street performers and the covered market, then browse the shops and arcades toward Seven Dials and Neal's Yard.

  5. Evening

    The View from The Shard

Ride up Western Europe's tallest building for sunset. The viewing galleries on floors 68 to 72 top 240 metres and take in the whole city, the river bending through it below.

  6. Dinner

    Soho dining

Head into Soho, London's densest dining and nightlife quarter, for dinner. Options range from old-school trattorias to acclaimed modern kitchens; book ahead on weekends when the streets stay busy late.

Day 02

Regent's Park & Camden

A historic zoo, rose gardens, canal paths, and a lively comedy stage north of the centre.

  1. Morning

    ZSL London Zoo

Head north to one of the world's oldest scientific zoos, opened in 1828 inside Regent's Park. Meet lions, penguins, and gorillas among mature trees, an engaging start with the canal and greenery all around.

  2. Late Morning

    Queen Mary's Gardens

Steps away in Regent's Park, these formal gardens bloom with over 12,000 roses in summer and shelter fountains and a boating lake. They pair naturally with the zoo and offer a calm green refuge any time of year.

  3. Lunch

    Camden Market

Walk north into Camden for lunch among the food stalls of Camden Market, where global street kitchens line the canal beside the neighbourhood's vintage shops and music venues.

  4. Afternoon

    Regent's Canal & Primrose Hill

Follow the towpath or climb Primrose Hill for one of London's finest free skyline panoramas over the city. On warm days the grassy summit fills with picnickers and the view stretches to the distant Shard.

  5. Evening

    Cecil Sharp House or shopping

Before dinner, drop into Cecil Sharp House, the home of English folk music and dance, for its murals and events, or browse the stalls and boutiques back along Camden High Street.

  6. Evening

    Camden Comedy Club

End with a show at the Camden Comedy Club above the Camden Head, an intimate room where rising stand-ups and touring names try out new material. Book ahead and arrive early for a drink in lively Camden.
